BIOSKETCH
Prof Jonathan Burns is Honorary Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Exeter, UK. He is also consultant for the Exeter Homeless Mental Health Service and is involved in the teaching and training of doctors, nurses and psychiatrists. He was born in Durban and trained as a doctor and psychiatrist at the University of Cape Town. He completed a Masters in Psychiatric Research at the University of Edinburgh and a PhD at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where he was Head of the Department of Psychiatry from 2011-2016. He has conducted research in the fields of psychosis, epidemiology and global mental health and has research collaborations in many countries. He is Co-PI of the PSYMAP-ZN study, a large epidemiological study of psychosis in KwaZulu-Natal. Prof Burns has published approximately 140 academic articles, book chapters and books.
